If you need to make a change to any return you have sent us, do not file another return for that year. You should wait until you receive your notice of assessment before requesting any change to a return that has not been processed. You can do so in one of the following ways.
To access a CRA epass service for the first time, you will be asked to register for a Government of Canada epass. Before you start will provide you with the information you need to complete the registration process.
If you are enroling for My Account for individuals or My Business Account, a CRA Security Code will be mailed to you.
You can make changes yourself to your return online. To access our electronic service, simply log on to My Account and select the Change my return option. You can then enter and submit any changes to your most recent Income Tax and Benefit Return, or to your returns of the previous two years, and they will be sent directly to our processing systems. For example, you may want to increase a deduction you claimed or add information from a slip you received after you sent us your income tax return.
You cannot use this service to get general information or information about tax or matters related to investigations. To change your address, see How to change your address.
Send both of the following to your tax centre:
Note Send your Form T1 ADJ or letter separately from your return for 2008.
Only requests relating to tax years ending in any of the 10 calendar years before the year you make the request will be considered. For example, a request made in 2009 must relate to the 1999 or a subsequent tax year to be considered.
It usually takes eight weeks before we complete the adjustment and mail you a notice of reassessment.
By using My Account, you can view and print detailed information on a particular assessment or reassessment to your income tax and benefit return for the current year or the four prior years.
You may be able to obtain a duplicate of your notice of assessment or notice of reassessment. See Payment forms and remittance vouchers for more information.
